Mission Statement and Ethos

As a Catholic School, St. Finian’s College seeks to develop a sense of community that attempts to live out the teaching of Christ, especially in our treatment of others. We endeavour to develop the spiritual, intellectual, social, cultural and physical potential of all our students. With the cooperation of the parents, this potential is developed as fully as possible, so that each student can achieve success at his/her own level of ability.

Aims of the College

St. Finian’s College seeks to develop the unique potential of each student. With the cooperation of the parents, every effort is made to ensure that each pupil can achieve success at his or her own level of ability. Religion is an important part of life and every student is encouraged to deepen his or her faith and to develop for themselves, a reasoned basis for the practice of that faith. St. Finian’s aims at providing well-educated Catholics to the enrichment of society.

School Vision

St. Finian’s College is a Catholic Secondary Co-educational school, under the patronage of the Bishop of Meath and dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in all areas of education. The college aims to provide its pupils with an educational environment which is intellectually, physically and culturally balanced so that each young person is enabled to achieve his or her full potential.
We see our school as a community, which includes the staff, the pupils, the parents, the local population, our country and indeed all those seeking a more spiritual and enlightened world.
Our school, which was born of the rich Catholic tradition of St. Finian of Clonard – one of the great educators of medieval Europe – is guided by true Gospel values and strives to achieve that ideal Catholic and Christian Community, where there is a fine balance between the individual and the group, and between individual freedom and mature responsibility.
To this end, we strive to encourage an atmosphere which is open and relaxed.
We welcome our responsibility for academic achievement and examination results commensurate with the abilities of individual students, while also seeking to develop in all our pupils those sensibilities which will enable them to contribute fully to society.
It is our aim to encourage our students to learn and think independently, to tolerate and value diversity, to show respect for all; teachers, fellow students and the environment in which we live, and ultimately to become responsible, creative and visionary members of our community.
