Parents Council 2023

The Parents' Advisory Council of St Finian's College is a group of parents/guardians who have volunteered their time and support towards the activities of the Council in order to enhance the life of our students in St Finian's College. We are proud to play an active role in the school. In line with established good practice, we work with the Principal, Mr. John McHale, and all the staff as well as the Board of Management to build an "effective partnership of home and school". Samantha Flynn is the current Chairperson of the PAC.

Main Role Of The Parents' Advisory Council

The main purpose of the Parents' Advisory Council is to act as a channel of communication between the parents/guardians and the staff and functions of the school by:

  • Supporting the students, parents and teachers
  • Helping to develop and reinforce the ethos of the school
  • Actively promoting the educational and general welfare of the students.

We promote good communication between the school and parents/guardians and provide opportunities to raise issues of interest to parents/guardians and to get information from the school in response. We help raise funds in order to improve the quality of the educational experience for our children and organise activities to promote the welfare of the students in the school.

We meet during school term to discuss issues, projects and fundraising. These meetings are attended by the Principal and by Mr. Daniel Connell. Mr. Connell is the Liaison from the staff with the PAC. Any parent is welcome to join the Council and we encourage you to attend our AGM which takes place at the start of the school academic year.

Fundraising

The Parents Council raises funds for the school by Specific Fundraising Events.

This is a very important function, as over the years it has enabled us to support and improve various facilities within the school. Each year the Parents Council undertake fundraising events and provide opportunities for social and educational interaction between parents, teachers and students. In past years we have organised many events including: fashion shows, raffles, social nights, students quiz, etc. These have raised much needed funds for projects including updating the school's IT and sports equipment. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any new ideas to assist us as we are always looking for new and exciting ways to raise much needed funds for our school.

We value your opinion, so please contact us at any time via email at: stfiniansparentscouncil@gmail.com.

Thank you

Samantha Flynn, Chairperson of the PAC
